A Message from the Director

St. George’s Kindergarten enjoys a rich history dating back more than 60 years when a small kindergarten was started in the Church’s Sunday school classrooms. Commonly referred to as the largest outreach of St. George’s Episcopal Church, St. George’s Kindergarten has an outstanding reputation in the Nashville community and is often considered the largest Episcopal preschool in the country.

While the school is steeped in tradition, we focus on implementing the Developmentally Appropriate Practices (DAP) set by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). St. George’s Kindergarten is accredited through the National Early Childhood Services Program Accreditation, and is consistently rated Three-Stars, the highest possible rating, by the Tennessee Department of Human Services.

Though technically a preschool, “St. George’s Kindergarten” is the original name given to the school by St. George’s Episcopal Church in 1950. St. George’s provides Mother’s Day Out programs for children ages 1 and 2 as well as pre-kindergarten programs for children ages 3, 4, and 5. Completion of the program does NOT replace the Tennessee state-mandated kindergarten year at the elementary level.

For purposes of simplicity, the terms St. George’s and SGK are used to refer to both Mother’s Day Out (MDO) and Kindergarten programs unless otherwise specified.

One of our most important goals is to develop a love of learning and curiosity in each child, which encourages self-expression through language, music, art, and dramatic play. We strive to develop a well-rounded child who will be ready for the next stage of education.

We invite you to visit out school and share in the excitement of St. George’s Kindergarten.

Zee Pendleton, Director
